DeEtte Englebright: Got Yoga?
DeEtte teaches yoga at Wasatch High School in the beautiful Heber Valley. She is married, has four children, an English Lab, and a hippie garden complete with a chicken coop. An unlikely path has brought her to where she is now.

She graduated from Utah State University with a Secondary Ed. Degree in History and English. SHe then became a "home educator" and stayed home with her children for the next 17 years. During those years she actively volunteered in her community, church, and children's schools. She was an avid runner, gardener, yogi, and life-enthusiast.

On year, while serving as a room mom for a kindergarten class, DeEtte offered to teach a yoga session for a breakout activity. The teacher eagerly enlisted her services and they were both shocked as the kids truly ate it up! They would beg for more. She noticed that the kids who were generally the most distracted and off-task were the ones that loved it the most.

This got her thinking and she started researching the benefits of yoga for all ages, and in particular, teens. She was surprised to find that teens often see the most drastic improvements to their mood, attention span, and self-confidence when they participate in yoga. Over the next few years, DeEtte worked on a Sport Yoga Certification and 200 hour Certification, and was hired by UVU to teacher Power Yoga. She begged her district to let her start a yoga program at Wasatch High School and eventually got permission to start one class. She hoped to have at least 25 students. That was 2 1/2 years ago, and she now has 350 students. Students are seeing the physical, emotional and academic benefits they're getting from attending a regular yoga class. DeEtte feels blessed everyday as she watches them let go of their egos and start tapping into mindfulness.
